How is this for a conclusion? (All opinions welcomed!!)?
"My decision to push past barriers and persevere toward my goal of becoming a doctor initially came from when I was ten years old, watching in amazement as doctors helped my baby sister live. Now that I am older, I am also motivated by a need to break negative stereotypes and mentalities toward African- American women and show others that they are not restricted to what they come from. I have developed into the person that I am today because of my background and the challenges I have faced in order to go further in life. It was those challenges that taught me life is what you put into it, and because I know that, I know success will come."
It's for a College Scholarship. In the beginning of the essay I talked about how my experience seeing my sister in the NICU when I was ten motivated me to overcome barriers to my success in becoming a doctor.
I think it's a little cliche.. I think it lacks focus on the future and you should probably use the present tense more often. If you think that your sister's experience was great you may want to include ways you've actually explored what doctors do to further your reasoning behind becoming a doctor. Because saying that, one could ask a question like if you like the medical professional for it's life saving aspect, why would you not be a nurse, or a lifeguard.. etc. Be more specific in that sense. Also it would be good to suggest a quality that you thought was good about the doctor that saved your sister and then use and example in your own life how you share the same quality. Example: if you thought that doctor had good communications skills and you are student president say it. Or if you thought the doctor was able to remain calm and collected through a stressfull situation give an example in your own life of this quality. Hope this helps!
