What's a good website with scholarship information?

I need scholarship information...like a ton. I want to be a veterinarian, which should explain that. haha

There are a handful of well-known scholarship database sites that feature search engines that are designed to match students with scholarships that they might qualify for. You'll see the same ones mentioned here all the time, so I'll leave it to some of the other respondents to offer you links to scholarship.com and fastweb.com, etc.

They may not be the best option for you.

Let me use an analogy - think about scholarships that you'll find on those sites like the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon attracts 25,000 entrants. Many of those scholarships will attract more.

If you are a world-class runner, you're not the least bit concerned that there will be 24,999 other runners in the race. Your competition isn't 24,999 other runners - it's the handful of other world-class competitors that have a legitimate chance of winning. You'll only need to beat out about 10 or 15 people to win the race, because no one else really has much of a shot - they're just not good enough.

Same with the scholarships you'll find on those sites. If you are a world-class student, you don't have a lot of real competition. You don't care if 24,999 other people apply, because you're one of the top 10 or 15 students who will be applying, and the rest have no legitimate chance of being selected.

If you're not a world-class runner, you can compete in the Boston Marathon - but you're not going to win. You can test yourself, and run against your friends, but you're not going to win. Same with the scholarships.

So what does a runner do if she DOES want to win? She enters local and regional races, where the competition isn't quite so world-class. If you're one of the top 10 runners in your part of the state, you have a good chance of winning 10K races and half marathons all over the area. Again - same with scholarships.

Your best resource probably isn't a mega-site. It's your high school guidance counselor. He/she has information on lots of local scholarships - and they know which Scholarships Students from your school have won in the past. They also have experience in how to prepare scholarship applications, how they should look, and what they should include. Definitely talk to your counselor.

Also check out the big thick scholarship books at your local bookstore. Several companies publish these guides every year - and your local (or school) library may have recent copies, too. They tend to be like the websites - but the difference is this - if you sign up at the websites, you're giving permission for "affiliates" and "sponsors" to send you tons of junk mail. The books have the same info, without the junk mail.
