whats the difference between a federally subsidized loan and a unsubsidized loan?
I've been offered a "federally subsidized direct loan" and a "federally unsubsidized direct loan". Whats the difference between the two?
The SUBSIDIZED loan means you are not incurring interest while in College. You'll start making payments 6 months after graduation and that is also when interest starts being added onto your loan amount.
The UNSUBSIDIZED loan means that the money you borrowed has interest being tacked on while you are in college AND while you are paying it back.
So typically you will spend more time paying back an UNsubsidized than the sub.
